2nd Grade CogAT Testing on March 8 or March 15

Reported by adrienne_morgan@ipsd.org on 2/18/21

February 18, 2021

Dear 2nd Grade Families:

On March 8 or March 15 second grade students will complete the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Please note that we are unable to share information about which form of the CogAT standardized test that will be given as this is a secure test.

2nd grade students will take the CogAT at Young on the dates connected to the first letter of their last name.
A-K: March 8: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
L-Z: March 15: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

CogAT is a pencil and paper assessment that must be delivered in person. The results are used to identify individual learning strengths and weaknesses and guide student program placement. Regardless of your choice of hybrid or remote learning for instruction, it is recommended that all students participate in this assessment.

The CogAT appraises the cognitive development of students by measuring students’ learned reasoning abilities. The questions on the CogAT require students to demonstrate their reasoning abilities in three areas most closely related to success in school: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and nonverbal reasoning.

It is important that families register for this assessment by completing this 2nd Grade Young CogAT Registration Form by noon on February 23, 2021.

In order to protect the safety of students and staff, District 204 will be taking the following steps during the testing process:
***All students taking the exam will need to have the completed self-certification form (see attached) with them in order to enter the building and take the test. We have been able to safely and successfully assess other student groups in person using these protocols this year.
***Students will need to wear a mask and have it on when they enter the building.
***Students may bring a water bottle as drinking fountains are not available.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up on March 8 or March 15
Parent Car Line: If you are driving your child to school for this assessment, please use the parent car line by the staff parking lot to drop off and pick up your child.

Bus Riders: Children taking the bus will be met by Young staff in the front circle drive.

Walkers: Should enter the building through the YMCA or Main Office Doors.

Second Grade students will then proceed to their teacher’s classroom to take the test.

Thank you,
Ms. Morgan
